Choosing your ballet shoes

Writer's picture: Virginia ChevalierVirginia Chevalier

Half pointe shoes should not be too big or too small.

The heel should not be loose, it should fit the heel.

When you point your foot, the toe of the shoe should follow the shape of your toes.

Half shoes are tight on the foot, but don't tighten the little elastics in front of the foot too much, otherwise your heel will hurt a lot. To start dancing you can use leatherette shoes, but later on fabric shoes are more suitable.

The elastic on the sides of the shoe crosses over each other to give the shoe a better hold and a nicer shape, but if you are a beginner you can use one elastic to hold the shoe.
